Memory Lane

Robbymac's latest post sent me on a little trip down memory lane. While I do defer to him on all things musical, there is no accounting for taste.

Disco music is the happy soundtrack for many of my memories from 1979 and 1980. Also, I am a sucker for sappy ballads, so Air Supply and Lionel Richie were favorites of mine during that era.

And Andy Gibb! Some of you may thank me for unearthing this rare 70's footage of Andy singing "Me Without You." This wasn't his most popular song, but in my opinion, it was his best.

Just a warning though, it isn't as good as the track on the album. He doesn't quite hit the level of emotion in this performance as he does on the album. Of course, if you haven't listened to it on the album 100 times, you won't notice the difference.

Others of you may want to think twice before spending 4 minutes of your life watching this.

And since it's almost Christmas, let me leave you with this disco gift - ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down." 4 full minutes of disco memories, it is actually better if you just close your eyes and envision the strobe light.

Leave your thanks in the comments. ;)

gasp... *wheeze*

need... air....

Actually, Wendy took me to task for the same reasons -- I was looking at musicality (bass players like me kept drifting into comas during the disco years), while Wendy was more like you, it was a "happy soundtrack" in the Far North and she didn't appreciate me dissin' her high school years.

Fortunately for both of us, we met in college. :)

Grace-
I was a small child in the 70's and graduated in the 90's, but I love ELO and Air Supply. I love disco and many of the bands from the 70's. Thanks for bringing them out. I am going to have to go listen for a while.

Oh. Mi. Gosh!

ELO and Don't Bring Me Down ... I haven't thought about that song in years. I loved that song!!! Yeah ... disco. I love(d) disco. I still do, much to my husband's dismay. He's a drummer and hates the stuff.

I love it. It's all the happy music memories from my misspent youth. ;-) Thanks for this ...

trailady,
My husband still teases me. We'll hear a ballad on the radio, and when I remark about liking the song, he'll say, "yeah, it sounds like air supply."

So robby,
Did you watch either of them? I'll admit the facial expressions on Andy's video are pretty mockable. I can't imagine some of my younger friends watching it with a straight face. The second was interesting just for the hairstyles.
BTW, you have a smart wife. :)

pj,
I'm glad you enjoyed them, even though you're a youngster ;). There are lots of clips from the disco artists on you tube. It was fun browsing through them.

abhantiarna,
Don't Bring Me Down and Funkytown are the 2 songs that come to mind whenever I think of the Red Baron, the disco bar of my youth. I'm glad you appreciated this little blast of the past.
