Just who is emergent, anyway?

From an article at Dtour by Bob Hyatt:

1. We don't know all there is to know about
God/Scripture/theology.

2. We think the process of learning more will continue indefinitely - the church will continue to grow in it's knowledge of God.

So that's my definition... What do YOU think?

I want to be among those who know that we don't know it all and never will, who comprehend that understanding will be a lifelong pursuit.

To me this means that concerning theology, we write in pencil, not in ink.

I tend to bristle at the word "theology" and over-the-top conversations about theology. It seems that those who insist on their theology are no longer exploring, but defending their stand.

My beliefs fall into three categories:
truths I know for sure
my understanding of ideas at this moment
mysteries I am trying to understand

I pray that I, we (the church) will continue to grow in our knowledge of God, that the eyes of our understanding be enlightened.

Thanks for the welcome Bob.

Good article and an easily grasped and practical definition of emergent.
