Gone for a Few Days

I'm going to a conference this weekend.

I'm not sure why I'm going to this conference. I'm not really looking for or expecting anything in particular.

The speaker is Graham Cooke. I just finished re-reading his book "Divine Confrontation."

I am curious to see how I feel now about prophetic teaching.

Will I be wallowing in skepticism, or will my inner-charismatic be unleashed once again?

Tune in Sunday or Monday to find out.

I heard Graham Cooke in 1999, ironically, in the same city where we now live. I was on tour with a worship band that played at the conference Graham was speaking at -- in the church we now attend. Go figure...

Your "inner charismatic"? Sounds akin to our beginning here at YWAM. Now that I've sorted through a pile of stuff in writing Post-Charimatics, YWAM is a good place to revisit the roots in an experiential way and see how it all fits for us now.

I'll be VERY interested in hearing from you after this conference!

yes, i'll be interested, too, though I did listen to some GC tapes recently and it was refreshing. GC is so non-religious.

lily and i have a chance to go hear him in a couple of weeks when he is in the portland area. We'll keep you posted.

While I am no longer as involved in the prophetic circles I used to be a part of, I wills ay that I have recommended Cooke to several people I felt were slipping too far into extremes. I met years ago in Kelowna, BC. Don't get me wrong, I affirm and embrace the charismatic tradition, it just isn't the defining tradition in my faith anymore. Again, though, Cooke is a good guy.

Have a great time,Grace! Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about it.

I have had the benefit of hearing Graham Cooke on several occasions...he has frequented the church I am out-of for several years, and I did get to go to a 5-day conference on one occasion where he was the main speaker. Like many people I know, his teaching has greatly impacted the way in which I relate to God.

I'm still on my first wading-through of "A Divine Confrontation" - hoping to finish it before he's here again in two weeks.

Thanks everyone.

I would like to know more about what network and ministries he associates himself with.

I found his teaching refreshing, although he pretty much messed up my latest attempts to figure out and compartmentalize my life.

I'll be posting more over the next few days.
