Do you Ever Wonder...

Do you ever wonder why church membership only qualifies you to membership in one building?

Profoundest trueth in the fewest words. Well said.

Oops, "that should be "truth". I am beginning to wax King James...

Or at the least, one religion~ I know Southern Baptists will "accept" members who were members at another SB church, if they can produce evidence!

May our eyes be filled with God, and not with membership paper.

When we go visiting we just don't much tell anyone where we are "from".

Hey Jamie, See my last comment on the "Left behind post" I couldn't get your email to go through so I posted a query there. I will put my email addy on my profile so we don't have to use Grace's site as post office.

If I remember correctly (and I do!), one day there will be only one membership roster. The one that counts. I don't think that God even sees the membership rosters of congregations.

Sort of like we'd look at a secret kids'club known only to its few members. It's the most important thing in their world, because they can't see from the perspective of adulthood. We know all that really matters is they have a loving family at home waiting for them at the end of the day.

Well said. But things are improving slightly. Remember, this use to be a club where "No Girls Allowed" was posted.

Love this post.

Or why the only "rights and privileges" that are included in that membership is tithing and supporting (slaving your tail off) whatever the latest vision of the leader(s) is?

Great thought. To bad I believed this was the truth for so long. Thanks for your great postings. I am going to get fired at work because I think sometimes I spend more time reading all your posts because I identify so much with them. Thanks for your words of truth and grace

verily, verily, LOL!

It's interesting to me that we would put so much stock in "the evidence."

I wonder what it would be like if we didn't attempt to categorize and label which box folks fit in when we meet them, or vice versa, they us, for example when you visit another church.

Great example! Actually the exclusivity of a secret club is the same wall that keeps us separated in our own buildings.

yes bruce, it's hard to fathom that there are still "no girls allowed clubs" that exist, of course we say it nicer now.

Don't even get me started! Sadly, I totally believed that supporting the "vision of the house" was of great importance and encouraged others in that direction for many years.

Thanks for your kind words, but don't get fired! :)

Yes it would be interesting wouldn't it? I think we are so used to making God in our image that we just keep right on doing it to people too.
