Tool Time

Our family enjoyed every episode of Home Improvement because it was so much like us. Yes, I'm married to the tool man.

Anyway, he is gone for the weekend, and I had a long, quiet weekend of laundry planned with my new washer and dryer.

The new washer is a little intimidating as it revs up to 1200 rpm, but I'm getting used to it. As I'm doing laundry, it seems like the washer just doesn't sound right. Instead of its normal thwump, thwump, whirrr, it seems to be more of a clank, clank, rattle.

The guys who delivered and set up the machines didn't inspire a lot of confidence. Apparently brains and brawn weren't sharing the same body. When they were here, I double-checked (nagged) about several things. "Did you remove the shipping bolts? Is the machine level? Are the hoses attached properly and not leaking?" They assured me everything was fine.

At one point, the "brains" of the two was complaining about the other guy. Trying to empathize, I said, "Looks like maybe you need a smarter partner." He looked at me funny and said, "Oh, that's my brother." Oops!

Now I'm wondering what could possibly be wrong with my new washer. So I decided that I should try to observe it internally while it is running to see if I can figure out what is rattling. After reading the instructions, I removed the front panel.

And guess what I found!

Yep, a wrench inside.

Just like this one.

Apparently the brain surgeons left one of their instruments behind.

Could you come and fix my washer, too? Yesterday when washing some bedclothes, it just started to keep a dreadful noice! I didn't dare letting it go on, I had to turn it off :(

Maybe it was the huge spider in the sink this morning that has misplaced his wrench inside my 13-year old washer? I can't ask him, though, because I squashed him already...

Oh eija, I hope your washer isn't broke.

Did you kill the pretty spider?
Too bad.

Grace no, it wasn't the pretty one. He's still weaving his web above our kitchen window - outside!

But the second he makes the mistake of stepping inside, he'll be a goner, too...
